Call for Visual Artists – Cultural Marketplace

The Whitehorse 2020 Arctic Winter Games, in partnership with the Yukon First Nations Culture and Tourism Association, would like to invite Yukon visual artists to apply for the AWG2020 Cultural Marketplace.

The marketplace will be taking place March 16th – 21st at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre and will showcase Yukon’s wide range of visual artists, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Arctic Winter Games.

Selected artists will be asked to drop off their work prior to the marketplace where it will be professional displayed and sold on your behalf in a 2,000 square foot gallery space.

Travel and accommodation subsidies are available for artists from the communities to ensure their participation. The deadline to apply is Friday, February 7th, 2020 and artists can expect to receive a response from the committee by Friday, February 14th.

The Cultural Program & Ceremonies of the Arctic Winter Games will be a celebration of northern culture featuring youth, community and professional artists from the circumpolar north who will gather for learning, collaboration and presentation to an audience comprised of Yukon residents, athletes and their supporters, and visitors to the Games.

The cultural component of the 2020 AWG will build opportunities for artistic experiences and audience engagement to celebrate northern culture through the opening and closing ceremonies, workshops, artist demonstrations, a local marketplace and a variety of performances including the Arctic Winter Game Gala.

The Opening Ceremony will be held on March 15 at 6:30 pm at Takhini Arena. Tickets are now on sale through the 2020 Arctic Winter Games office or Whitehorse City Hall. Cost is $45 for adults or $35 for youth and seniors.

Tickets for the Cultural Gala will go on sale at a later date. More info coming soon.
