City of Whitehorse

On behalf of Mayor and Council, the City of Whitehorse and its residents, it is my honor and privilege to welcome you to our beautiful city for the 2020 Arctic Winter Games.

We are proud to support the Arctic Winter Games’ continued commitment to fair play sport, First Nations culture, community inclusion, and spirit of togetherness.

Whitehorse is a vibrant city characterized by First Nations culture, gold rush history, and has a creative small-town charm but with capital city amenities — all set against our vast wilderness landscape.

We have a proud history of hosting territorial, national and international sporting events.

It is the perfect setting for showcasing the uniqueness of the North. We are blessed with amazing recreation facility infrastructure and outstanding volunteers.

In 2020, we look forward to hosting young athletes who will come together for a unique multi-sport experience that will create a lifetime of memories.

Our community always enjoys the opportunity to host this international circumpolar event, and showcase Whitehorse on a global stage.

The community benefits of hosting this type of event are significant. The Arctic Winter Games bring an added liveliness to our city, a multitude of opportunities for community development, engagement, and valued economic stimulus for local businesses.

We also recognize that a successful Games requires a huge commitment from our community volunteers and we need to thank them for continuing to step up as great hosts.

The games provide an incredible opportunity for young athletes to meet new people and build meaningful relationships with those who share a passion for sport and northern heritage.

We look forward to welcoming you all March 15-21, 2020, and hope you will enjoy everything Whitehorse has to offer.
