Another event traditional to Northern Canada and Alaska is dog mushing, which has its origins both as a winter necessity for trapping and travel as well as a recreational pursuit. Both the dogs and mushers are athletes as they work together to travel their given distance in the least amount of time. This combined athleticism is built upon a strong connection between man and animal where both depend on each other to travel the race well.
Dog Mushing competition during the 2020 Arctic Winter Games will include two age classes: Junior Co-ed and Juvenile Co-ed. A team consists of up to eight athletes and two coaches from each participating contingent.
