Marjorie Jensen

In addition to working part time and volunteering at the hospital, Marjorie Jensen, who is in her early eighties, has registered to be a volunteer in the 2020 Arctic Winter Games!

How long have you been involved with the Arctic Winter Games, and in what capacity?
My first one was in 1980 when my son was involved with snowshoeing. I started as a coach for snowshoeing, have done security, been an official for ski biathlon, and an organizer.

Tell me about one of your best experiences.
Meeting all the people and athletes!

What keeps you involved after so many years, and in what capacity will you volunteer in 2020?
Great to meet people, associate with other volunteers…the fun, to get involved and meet people from other territories and other countries. When I started in 1980, it was just the Northwest Territories, Alaska, and Yukon. I’m registered for security for 2020. I get to be indoors at the Games Centre.

What words of encouragement do you have for people who might be thinking of volunteering?
It’s a community thing. Talk to past volunteers. Use word of mouth.
