Welcome to the Screening Portion of Your Volunteer Experience
THIS SECTION IS ONLY FOR ADULT VOLUNTEERS WHO WILL BE 19 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AS OF JAN. 1, 2020.
The Whitehorse 2020 AWG Host Society is responsible for recognizing and mitigating potential risks for this community event to the best extent possible and have made the decision that all adult volunteers and staff associated with the 2020 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse will be required to undergo screening as part of the Host Society Risk Management plan, regardless of their role during the Games.
To have any non-vetted individual working in our multi-sport youth games environment, no matter their position, would leave the Host Society in a vulnerable position from a liability perspective and would not satisfy the requirements of the AWG International Committee and event funders.
The second reason the whole workforce will be screened is to maximize flexibility in managing volunteer assignments. While you might not be scheduled into a role that involves any of the risks identified above, as a volunteer you may be asked to take on additional responsibilities at your venue or fill in for a volunteer that can’t make their shift. With all volunteers and staff screened, it gives the Venue Operations Centre the greatest opportunity to cover the needs of the venue with available volunteers.
If you have had an RCMP Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check completed since September 2018, AND have the original reports from the RCMP, please bring the reports to the AWG Headquarters office at Unit 300, NVD Place, 4th and Ogilvie Street (across from the Qwanlin Mall). Yukon teachers – if you fall into this category, you can obtain your original reports from the Department of Education, Human Resources Department, 1000 Lewes Boulevard, Whitehorse.
